Advance Course

By the end of the three courses, the student will be able to sing about 21 varnams, 54 kritis and other musical forms like the padams, ragamalika, etc.The student is now ready to sing or handle any type of complex issues in carnatic music. So more complex issues such as the ragam tanam pallavis are taught and more emphasis is given to manodarma sangita. Complex kritis, padams, ragamalikas are taught in this course.

The student may become a concert performer if he/she is serious in learning. This course is more tougher and moulds the student to become more perfect and familiar with creative music.

We offer 3 different levels in this course:

  1. Advanced course level 1
  2. Advanced course level 2
  3. Advanced course level 3
Level 1

Simple pallavis are introduced in adi tala and any 3 talas. Besides, chauka kala kritis are also taught along with raga alapana, Niraval and kalpana swara.

Learning experience:

      Should have completed the 3 previous courses

            Or

      Should know to sing atleast 18 varnams[both adi and ata tala varnams] and about 50 kritis[both madyama and chauka kala kritis] and should have the ability to sing raga alapana and kalpana swara for atleast 7 ragas and Niraval for 2 kritis.

Portions covered during this course:
  1. Chauka kala kritis for any 5 ragas.
  2. Raga alapana, Niraval and kalpana swaras for the 5 kritis taught in item [A]
  3. 4 Pallavis atleast 1 in adi tala and the rest in other simple talas.
  4. A study of ragam tanam pallavis.
  5. Raga alapana and Niraval for the pallavis.
  6. A ragamalika comprising more than 4 ragas.
Course objectives:
  1. Gets more perfection with raga alapana, Niraval and kalpana swaras.
  2. Learns more chauka kaala kritis.
  3. A new musical form pallavi is introduced.
  4. The Structure of pallavis are understood.
  5. One more ragamalika is known.
  6. Helps the student to persue the next level of learning music.
Course duration:

The approximate time to complete this course is assumed to be 6 months. Depending on the performance and progress of the student, the time duration will be decided by the teacher.

Level 2

Tanam singing is introduced. A padam is taught apart from chauka kala kritis.

Learning experience:

      Should have completed Advanced course level 1

            Or

      Should be able to sing about 13 chauka kala kritis with raga alapana, Niraval and kalpana swara for any 5 kritis. Atleast 2 simple pallavis are to be known.

Portions covered during this course:
  1. 5 chauka kala kritis.
  2. Raga alapana, Niraval and Kalpana swaras for the above kritis taught.
  3. Tanam singing for the pallavis taught in level 1.
  4. 2 simple pallavis and 1 Nadai pallavi along with raga alapana, tanam , niraval and Kalpana swara.
  5. A difficult padam Of Kshetrajna.
  6. The concept of raga and rasa.
Course objectives:
  1. Learns more chauka kala kritis.
  2. Attains more proficiency in manodarma sangita.
  3. A new form of manodarma sangita tanam is introduced.
  4. More simple pallavis are learnt.
  5. Nadai pallavi isintroduced.
  6. The Concept of raga and rasa is known.
  7. Helps the student to persue the next level.
Course duration:

The approximate time to complete this course is assumed to be 6 months. Depending on the performance and progress of the student, the time duration will be decided by the teacher.

Level 3

Nadai pallavis are taught and a 4 kalai pallavi is taught therefore moulding the student to handle any type of complex issues in karnatic music.

Learning experience:

      Should have completed the 2 previous levels in the advanced course.

            Or

      Should be able to sing all the aspects of manodarma sangita including ragam tanam pallavi, 15 chauka kala kritis with manodarma aspects.

Portions covered during this course:
  1. 5 Chauka kala kritis.
  2. Manodarma aspects for the kritis taught in item [A]
  3. 3 Nadai pallavis and 1 4kalai pallavi with all the manodarma aspects.
  4. 3 Bajans of Meera, Tulsidas or other composers.
  5. A brief study of Raga system in Hindustani music.
Course objectives:
  1. 15 more chauka kala kritis are learnt by the end of this course.
  2. Pallavi from simple to complex nature are learnt.
  3. 4 kalai pallavi is introduced
  4. An introduction is given about the Hindustani raga system
  5. The student will be able to sing all the aspects of manodarma sangita therefore giving them a great idea of the concert pattern and issues related to it.
